The invention and history of the refrigerator

What is a refrigerator?

It is a cooling machine that works with the steam compression method, keeping food cold for a long time.

First mechanical Refrigerator:

The biggest step in making the refrigerator is the mechanical cooling, which was developed by British Thomas Harris and John Long in 1790, and also owned the first known patent for that period. The mechanical coolant was similar to the suction-discharge pump and it needed manpower to operate. Although the use of the appliance is difficult for that period, nowadays refrigerators are still working with the method found by the two inventors.

First piston refrigerator running without manpower:

Inspired by the same device, the American Jackop Perkins patented a piston cooling machine working with ether in 1834. But since the ether was flammable and explosive, the device was extremely dangerous. It has taken its place in history with the device which will be inspired to produce Modern refrigerators.

First refrigerator manufactured for commercial purposes:

In 1844, John Gorrie made the first refrigerator produced for commercial purposes. John Gorrie, a medical doctor in his original profession, took his place in history as the father of "air conditioning systems – refrigeration – Commercial ice production" in 1844.

Dr. Alexander Kirk developed the first absorption cooling device that worked with coal heat in 1861. The entry into the commercial field of ice production through mechanical cooling was at the end of the year 1800 ′.

The first refrigerator that works with electrical energy:

Karl Von Linde (1832-1934) introduced the first refrigerator of the German inventor Linde to the world in the year 1876, working with electrical energy. For the circulation of the gas, the electric-powered compressor was used for the cooling system and methyl ether. In 1877 he received patents for this device. It was revolutionary to work with the electrical energy of the device. However, the methyl ether used for the cooling system was still extremely explosive and could not be used much like previous models due to security concerns. Despite this, he has managed to sell 747 refrigerators until 1890.

Revolution in the refrigerator, use of freon gas:

The Swede, Baltzar von Platen (1898-1984), together with Carl Munters, produced the first refrigerator to use freon gas. The ether gas used in previous refrigerants has used Freon gas, a new throttle, due to inadequate cooling and explosion hazard. The device, which provides a more effective cooling and no risk of explosion, has expired as a landmark on the refrigerator.

The first refrigerator factory was established:

Kelvinator Company was founded in 1914. The refrigerators, which are fully automatic and have a condenser function, were produced in 1925. The first year was a giant company, selling 67 pieces of wardrobe, a total of 200 lockers between 1918-1920 years.

An automatic ice cabinet working with the absorption principle was also released in America in 1927 by the Electrolux Kelvinator Company.

The rapidly evolving industry and the difference in the benefits of the refrigerator have led to the establishment of many refrigerator factories. More organized and team-working producers have ensured that today's refrigerators are revealed.
