Die inventered de wasmachine?
Eeuwenlang waste vrouwen hun Wasserij met hun handen op de stream, wrijven ze aan de kant. Waar er geen stromen, werd de Wasserij gewassen in hout, koper of ijzer bekkens. In de regio Sapo van Rome, slachtoffers bleken te worden gebruikt als zeep van de vet-bevattende as van sacdriicial dieren. Tot het einde van de 18e eeuw was er geen andere methode van de Wasserij.
In 1782 maakte in Londen, Henry Sidgier een houten, gesloten Wasserij boot in zeshoekige vorm. De houten staafjes in deze boot geplaatst waren gilde in de Wasserij. Twee uiteinden van de boot, twee geschorst, en vervolgens werd hij draaien met arm kracht. Gebaseerd op menselijke arbeid, dit systeem werd exhaiting en het duurde langer dan de gebruikelijke methoden.
