Las prótesis dentales se dividen en prótesis fijas y prótesis móviles.

Prótesis fija: Se divide en prótesis fija con soporte implantado y prótesis de puente coronado.

Prótesis móvil: Prótesis móvil completa, Prótesis móvil parcial, Prótesis móvil con implante.


Las prótesis removibles soportadas por implantes se clasifican según los tipos de articulaciones.

Las prótesis parciales móviles se dividen en dos, uno es trenzado y el otro es el soporte sensible

Las prótesis completamente móviles se dividen en dos, normales y soportadas.


Hay prótesis magnéticas que se aplican a los pacientes que no tienen mucho tejido de apoyo, no tienen dientes en la boca, y tienen una pérdida excesiva de mandíbula.


A veces, el resultado deseado no se puede lograr en dentaduras totales aplicadas en pacientes sin dientes.

Esto se observa en pacientes con pérdida extrema de mandíbula. Las prótesis totales aplicadas a estos pacientes pueden salir de la boca del paciente mientras comen o hablan.
