Tandprothesen zijn verdeeld in vaste prothesen en beweegbare prothesen.

Vaste prothese: Het is verdeeld in vaste prothese met geïmplanteerde steun en bekroonde brugprothese.

Bewegende prothese: Full-moving prothese, Gedeeltelijke bewegende prothese, Implant ondersteunde bewegende prothese.


Implantaat ondersteunde verwijderbare protesen worden ingedeeld volgens de soorten gewrichten.

Gedeeltelijke beweegbare protesen zijn verdeeld in twee, één is gevlochten en de andere is een gevoelige beugel

Volledig beweegbare prothese zijn verdeeld in twee, normaal en ondersteund.


Er zijn magnetische prothesen die worden toegepast op patiënten die niet te veel ondersteunend weefsel hebben, geen tanden hebben op hun mond en overmatig verlies van kaakbeen hebben.


Soms kan het gewenste resultaat niet worden bereikt in de totale gebitsteken toegepast bij volledig tandheelloze patiënten.

Dit wordt gezien bij patiënten met extreem verlies van kaakbeen. Totale prothese die op deze patiënten wordt toegepast kan uit de mond van de patiënt komen tijdens het eten of praten.

Wanneer een magnetische prothese wordt aangebracht, beweegt de prothese niet. Eten en kauwen zijn niet lastig. Het herwint zelfvertrouwen in het sociale leven.
